Wood Puzzle & Felt Sculpture
BACTERIA WOOD PUZZLE
The Bacteria Petri Dish wood project features a puzzle game toy and an infographic chart, designed as an educational tool to introduce people to different types of bacteria.
My fascination with the beauty of bacteria and viruses inspired the project, with the aim of presenting these forms in an interactive and engaging way. The process involved creating a color sketch and cutting all the wood pieces before assembling the petri dish.
Each piece was painted and decorated with an airbrush, which posed some challenges during the execution. Despite this, I was pleased with the final result and enjoyed seeing people take an interest in playing the game.
For future projects, I plan to sand the surface more smoothly to create a more sophisticated finish. The airbrush part was the most exciting aspect of the project, while working with the airbrush was not always enjoyable. The project provided an opportunity for me to learn and observe my own interests and creativity.
FELT SCULPTURE
"Deadly Flower" is a small sculpture of a felting flower with a petals. The concept behind the piece is to present the usually considered not beautiful things in a beautiful and soft way. The deadly flower, rafflesia, which is a flashy but stinky flower that grows on the ground and attracts bugs to eat them, inspired the design. I made the sculpture to try out felts.
The process started with color sketches, followed by using a cutting machine to cut a foam sphere in half to create the fundamental structure of the sculpture. Then, felting was done with white felts, and after having a solid structure, color felts were applied to each part and felted together. One major issue that arose during the process was that the color scheme changed when I applied the color felts.
As the colors on the screen looked dull, I changed the color from red to blue. The foam structure ensured that the final sculpture's form looked very solid, which went well. I enjoyed all the felting parts and found it satisfying and a great stress relief. The project helped me discover their interest in small sculpture and increased my desire to do more felting in the future.
